A 365 Day Global Prayer Journey - January 7 (Day 7)

Today our journey will connect us directly to God's beautiful creation - icecaps and deserts, rainforests and oceans. Please read the Global Trends "Environmental" section in Operation World pages 15-16, then return here.

From a purely Biblical standpoint, we know that God charged man to be steward over His creation. We are certainly to use it, but as caretakers. Recognizing the need to pray about the environmental issues mentioned is not a political stance, but a Christian one. For the reality is that each of the issues - water, natural resources, climate changes - impact people ... people that God loves. We need to pray for those people, and pray for solutions that are just and right. Let's do that now!

My prayer for today: Lord, thank You that You are the Living Water and bread of life. You are everything we need. Because You created us, and because You walked this earth in human flesh, You know our need for resources. You know the resource we need most is water - we cannot live without it. And yet so much of the world lacks access to clean, fresh water, while others waste water at an alarming rate. Lord, please be with organizations like Living Water International and others who seek to provide clean water. You tell us that You honor just a cup of cold water given in Jesus' name. Lord, please help more and more Christians be part of getting water to those who don't have good water. And Lord in these areas where there is conflict over distribution of water and other natural resources, I pray for just and right decisons. I pray that many decision-makers would remember how You spoke against Ammon and Moab when they wouldn't give food and water to Israel; how You condemned Sodom and Gomorrah for not strengthening the hands of the poor and needy. I pray that they will repent and allow You to guide them to right decisions. For those who have lost their livelihood due to climate change and the melting ice caps, I pray that You will provide new ways to provide for their families. Overall Lord, help us know how to care for this world that you've given us, so that we can meet basic needs for more people and glorify You in the process. in Jesus Name, amen.
